Tom Yum Noodle Soup

How to make Tom Yum Noodle Soup:

Noodles in Thai is translated as Kuai Tiao ก๋วยเตี๋ยว and Tom Yum is ต้มยำ (1). So to say Tom Yum Noodle Soup in Thai you would just say Kuai Tiao Tom Yum (ก๋วยเตี๋ยวต้มยำ). I went to a Thai Restaurant and ordered Tom Yum Noodle Soup there, and it was really delicious. My curiosity led me to research how to make this Noodle Soup.

Ingredients:

  1. Chicken Stock (3-4 cup)
  2. Lemongrass (x1 stalk)
  3. Kaffir Lime Leaves (x3)
  4. Medium Sized Shrimp (As many as you want or x12)
  5. Fish Sauce (x2 Tablespoon)
  6. Red Chili (x2 tbsp)
  7. Garlic Cloves (x3)
  8. Cherry Tomatoes [As many as you want]
  9. Shitake Mushroom [As many as you want]
  10. Bell Pepper (red or green x1)
  11. Coconut Milk (Half a can)
  12. Coriander (1/3 cup. [Coriander are Dried seeds of cilantro])
  13. Brown Sugar
  14. Noodles?
    1. Glass -Wun Sen
    2. Wide rice noodles -Sen yai
    3. Small rice noodles – Sen lek
    4. Vermicelli noodles -Sen mee
    5. Yellow egg noodles -Sen be mee

Steps:

First go to the store and purchase all the needed ingredients. There is an Asian Market in every corner that sells everything!

Next get a big pot and dump the chicken stock and minced lemon grass into the pot and boil it for six minutes.

Then turn the heat to simmer and add Garlic, lime leaves, and the shitake mushrooms or whatever mushrooms you got. Simmer for five minutes.

Now you will want to add the shrimp, bell peppers, and cherry tomatoes. Simmer for another five minutes. When the shrimp is pink and plump, it is ready!

Finally lower the heat and add your coconut milk and fish sauce into the pot. Add salt and pepper and taste it. If it is too sour add some sugar!

**Also DON’T forget the noodles! Go to the store, buy some dried rice noodles and dump it in the pot for a few minutes! If you don’t know how to cook noodles, you can experiment with it by leaving it in the pot for as long you like and see what happens.

Now you are ready to eat! Pour the contents into a large bowl and sprinkle some of that coriander stuff over it. A bowl of Tom Yum Noodle Soup costs about 8$ at a Thai Restaurant in the U.S. You can save money now by making your own!

You can also cook Tom Yum Noodle Soup with Chicken breast and Tofu. If you plan on adding chicken breast to your soup it will take about 10-15 minutes longer to cook (4).
